Ferran Torres struck in the 106th minute, turning in a Nico Williams header back across the box, to give Spain a 1-0 extra-time win over Argentina in the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium. The match was goalless after 90 minutes, with Emiliano Martínez saving a Lamine Yamal free-kick to keep Argentina level before Torres broke the deadlock. Argentina finished with 10 men after Enzo Fernández was sent off for a second yellow card in stoppage time. It is Spain's second World Cup title after 2010, and a first final defeat for Lionel Messi and Argentina since 2014.
Rodri wins the Golden Ball, Mbappé takes a second Golden Boot as FIFA names World Cup 2026 award winners
Spain captain Rodri was named the tournament's best player, taking the Golden Ball ahead of Silver Ball winner Lionel Messi and Bronze Ball winner Kylian Mbappé. Mbappé's 10 goals also secured him the Golden Boot for a second straight World Cup. Spain goalkeeper Unai Simón won the Golden Glove as the tournament's best goalkeeper, and Spain defender Pau Cubarsí was named Young Player of the Tournament. Bukayo Saka scored a hat-trick (37', 45', 87' pen) as England beat France 6-4 in the highest-scoring World Cup match since 1982 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Declan Rice and Ezri Konsa also scored either side of Saka's first two to put England 4-0 up, before Kylian Mbappé (48', 66') and Bradley Barcola (54') dragged France back to 4-3. Saka's penalty made it 5-3 before Ousmane Dembélé pulled one back, and Jude Bellingham sealed it in stoppage time. Anthony Gordon put England ahead in the 55th minute at Atlanta Stadium, but the holders hit back late. Enzo Fernández levelled in the 85th minute and Lautaro Martínez struck the winner in second-half stoppage time (90+2), both goals set up by Lionel Messi crosses. Argentina reach their second consecutive World Cup final, where Spain await at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday July 19 — Messi versus Lamine Yamal. England went on to beat France in Saturday's third-place play-off in Miami.
